  • Director: John Krasinski
  • Cast: Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Millicent Simmonds

A film that will give you chills, “A quiet place” is a movie about a family who must live in silence to avoid being attacked by creatures that hunt by sound. This film is a good reminder for you of all the times you were too loud at home!

The film takes you on a journey as the family tries to communicate without making noises to protect themselves from the creatures. It’s a film that will keep you on the edge of your seat, so watch it with the lights on.

Revolutionary Road (2008)

  • Genre: Romance/Drama
  • IMDb Rating: 7.3/10
  • Director: Sam Mendes
  • Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Christopher Fitzgerald

We often hear about the “American dream,” and this film explains it very well while making you question your life choices. “Revolutionary Road” takes place in the 1950s and tells the story of a young couple. Frank and April Wheeler, played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, live in Connecticut and are unhappy with their lives, so they decide to relocate to Paris. However, things do not go as planned, and they return to their previous sad life. The film is based on Richard Yates’ novel of the same name.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)

  • Genre: Scifi/Drama
  • IMDb Rating: 7.2/10
  • Director: Steven Spielberg
  • Cast: Haley Joel Osment, Jude Law, Frances O’Connor

This film is set in the future, and when we say future, the first thing that comes to mind is robots. “A.I. Artificial Intelligence” is about a highly advanced robotic boy named David, played by Haley Joel Osment, who is frequently mistaken for a human in the film.

The only wish this poor child had was to become “real” so that he could be loved by his human mother and father in that happy place known as home. The film takes you on an emotional roller coaster as you follow David’s journeys out into the woods in search of a way to become a real boy.

American Beauty (2004)

  • Genre: Romance/Drama
  • IMDb Rating: 8.4/10
  • Director: Sam Mendes
  • Cast: Kevin Spacey, Annette Bening, Thora Birch

This film walks you through what happens when you have a life crisis; it follows the story of Laster Burham, played by Kevin Spacey, a well-off suburban husband and father. He got tired of his tedious job and decided to quit to live his life, or so he thought. But, in reality, he became pot-smoking, behaving like a teenager. The film follows him on his journey as he deals with life crises and his family.

The Addams Family (1991)

  • Genre: Comedy/Fantasy
  • IMDb Rating: 6.9/10
  • Director: Barry Sonnenfeld

This film, in my opinion, is ideal for ushering in the spooky season of Halloween. The Adam’s Family follows the story of a man claiming to be Fester, played by Christopher Lloyd, the missing brother of Gomes Addams, played by Raul Julia, who arrives at the Addams’ home, much to the delight of the family. However, something doesn’t feel right, and Morticia, played by Anjelica Huston, begins to suspect that perhaps this man is a fraud. But the question is, is he? You must watch to find out.

Breakfast At Tiffany’s (1961)

  • Genre: Romance/Comedy

Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a film you can watch a million times and never get tired of. It tells the story of Paul Varjack, played by George Peppard, a writer supported by a wealthy woman, played by Patricia Neal. Audrey Hepburn plays his upstairs neighbour.

Her one-of-a-kind personality and elegance spark his interest, and he wants to learn more about her. But unfortunately, she doesn’t reveal much about herself other than that she enjoys going to Tiffany’s when she has “the mean reds” and needs to be surrounded by something comforting. I won’t say anything else to avoid spoilers, but this is a film you must watch!

Jackass Forever (2022)

  • Genre: Comedy/Action
  • IMDb Rating: 7.0/10

If you liked the Jackass movies, you’d enjoy this one, the fourth and final instalment of the “Jackass” sequels. The original cast includes Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O, and many others. The film’s plot follows the crew as they grow older and wiser, but they revert to their old habits. The film is filled with cringe-worthy and hilarious stunts.

Clueless (1995)

  • Comedy/Romance
  • Genre: IMDb Rating: 6.9/10
  • Director: Amy Heckerling
  • Cast: Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy

A movie that is a blast from the past, Clueless follows the story of a rich and social butterfly, Cher, played by Alicia Silverstone, at the top of her Beverly Hills high school’s social hierarchy. Cher sees herself as a matchmaker, and she decides to set two of her teachers up on dates, and her plan works.

She then decided to give a makeover to the new shy student Tai, played by Brittany Murphy. But, things turn worse when Tai becomes more popular than Cher *shocker*. This makes her realise that her ex-stepbrother, played by Paul Rudd, was correct about how she’s misguided and falls for him. It’s a typical 90s chick flick movie that you can’t miss.

Zoolander (2001)

  • Genre: Comedy
  • IMDb Rating: 6.5/10
  • Director: Ben Stiller
  • Cast: Ben Stiller,  Owen Wilson, Christine Taylor

You’ve probably heard the term “Blue Steel,” and yes, I’m referring to Zoolander. This film follows fashion model Derek Zoolander played by Ben Stiller, a three-time consecutive award winner. He is on his way to claiming his fourth prize as “Model of The Year”; however, things take a turn, and the prize goes to his rival Hansel, played by Owen Wilson.

Derek is crushed, making him easy prey for fashion designer Jacobim Mugatu, played by Will Ferrell. He signs Derek to star in his “Derelicte” fashion show before brainwashing him to kill Malaysia’s prime minister. The movie sounds intense, but trust me, it’s hilarious!

Orphan: First Kill (2022)

  • Genre: Horror/Thriller
  • IMDb Rating: 5.9/10
  • Director: William Brent Bell
  • Cast: Isabelle Fuhrman, Julia Stiles, Rossif Sutherland

A film that will keep you glued to the screen, unable to move, and waiting to see what happens next. Esther’s terrifying plot thickens in this thrilling sequel film to the original and shocking horror hit “Orphan.” “Orphan: First Kill” is about Esther, who escapes from an Estonian psychiatric facility and travels to America as the missing daughter of a wealthy family. However, an unexpected twist occurs, and that’s all there is to say about the movie. I will leave the rest for you to watch and find out for yourself; just get some snacks and start watching it.
