Taxi Driver is a psychological thriller. Robert De Niro plays a mentally unstable veteran who is a taxi driver in New York City. He tries saving a teenage prostitute from her pimp after becoming obsessed with her. His obsession and rage simmer into violence. The movie also shows the dark side of New York City and De Niro’s intense performance as Travis Bickle.
Scorsese directs this film based on a novel of the same name by Jodie Foster’s father, Aeric Roth (who also wrote Forrest Gump). The movie was nominated for 20 awards, including four Oscars, and won 22.
The movie is set in 1970s New York City and has a gritty feel, elevating the thrilling feeling the film already had going for it.

Raging Bull

If you’re a fan of Robert De Niro and haven’t seen Raging Bull, you must make it your next movie night. Martin Scorsese directed the movie as well as Goodfellas, Taxi Driver and other unforgettable classics. It’s based on the life of boxer Jake LaMotta (De Niro) and won two Academy Awards: Best Actor for De Niro and Best Film Editing.
The movie was nominated for 28 nominations and won 24 awards. The movie is one of the highest-grossing films in 1980, with $34 million worldwide grosses at that time–an impressive sum considering inflation!
Raging Bull was ranked number 17 on AFI’s 100 Years… 100 Movies list released in 1998; however, this ranking has since been revised down to number 29, due out later this year due to newer releases over time which were not included before 1999 such as Boyhood (2014), Birdman (2014) & Spotlight (2015).

Casino is a 1995 crime film starring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone and directed by Martin Scorsese. The story takes place in Las Vegas, showing the greed, money, power, deception and murder taking place between a casino executive and a mafia enforcer as they compete over a gambling empire.

The Deer Hunter is an American epic war drama film released in 1978. It was directed by Michael Cimino. The movie follows three Russian American steelworkers who fought in the Vietnam War. The movie stars Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, John Savage, John Cazale and Meryl Streep.
The three main characters are played by De Niro (Michael), Walken (Stan), and Savage (Nick). They were all nominated for Oscars for their roles. The movie won 24 awards and was nominated for 27.

Cape Fear

Cape fear is one of the best Robert De Niro movies. In the movie, he plays the role of Max Cady.
He is a convicted criminal who was imprisoned for assaulting a young girl. He has been released from prison after wisely spending his time in jail, planning his revenge against the girl’s lawyer and his family after returning to his hometown. His mission is to destroy the family of Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte).
Max Cady is a cunning, manipulative and dangerous man. He uses his intelligence to break into Sam’s house, steal his wallet and leave hints that he is there. Max Cady is a complex character. He is a combination of both good and evil, and it’s hard to tell which one will win in the end. Robert De Niro portrays this character beautifully, as he manages to make us feel sorry for him while also wanting him dead. The movie was nominated for two Oscars, was directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Robert De Niro, Jessica Lange, Nick Nolte, and Juliette Lewis.

Goodfellas

Goodfellas is an American crime film directed by Martin Scorsese. Along with Robert De Niro, the film stars Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci and Lorraine Bracco. The story follows Henry Hill (Liotta), a young Italian American who becomes involved in the criminal underworld of 1970s New York City.
The film won an Oscar, and 44 other awards, was nominated for 38 other awards and landed on countless critics’ lists as one of the greatest films ever made.

Awakenings

Awakenings follows Dr Malcolm Sayer (Robin Williams), who was hired at a local hospital in the Bronx as a clinical physician. His patients are encephalitis epidemic victims. Leonard Low, a forty-one-year-old patient, has been supported by his mother since he got ill when he was eleven. As Leonard is awakened by the therapy, many issues arise.

Based on the true story of Dr Sayer and his patients and inspired by the case of Dr Oliver Sacks’ “Patient H.M.,” who suffered from epilepsy as a child and developed memory problems later in life as a result; the movie won six different awards including two NBR Awards for the movie stars Robin Williams and Robert De Niro. It was also nominated for 3 Oscars, 1 Grammy and 1 Golden Globe, as well as 6 other nominations.
