Best Movies to Watch on Netflix

50- Red Notice (IMDB: 6.3)

Release
2021

Genre
Comedy, Crime, Action

Stars
Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds

Directed by
Rawson Marshall Thurber

When browsing the platform, trying to spot the best movies to watch on Netflix can be hard to find. However, you will instantly get attached once you see this charismatic and cheerful cast who is sent on a serious mission to hunt a treasure.

Red Notice is a must-watch if you’re in the mood for an edge-of-your-seat thriller. The movie, produced by Netflix, stars Dwayne Johnson as an Interpol agent on the hunt for an international art thief with the help of our handsome and hilarious hero, Ryan Reynolds. The chase takes them all over the world, and the stakes are high – if our hero catches the thief, he’ll save his job and maybe even his life.

The action is non-stop, and Johnson is at his charming best. The supporting cast is also strong, including Gal Gadot as a mysterious woman who may or may not is helping the thief. Every scene is surprisingly shot perfectly. Red Notice is the film you’ve been looking for if you want to be entertained, surprised, and captivated from the opening scene all the way to the end.

However, everything is close to perfection, but something is still missing. The director should work more on paper. Some critics found its lack of personality.

49- The Adam Project (IMDB: 6.7)

Release
2022

Genre
Action, Adventure, Comedy, Sci-Fi

Stars
Ryan Reynolds, Walker Scobell, Zoe Saldaña, Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo

Directed by
Shawn Levy

Sometimes, the one reason for clicking through the Netflix icon is to watch a time-travel movie. The idea seems timeless and compelling. Not just for me but for a large audience across the globe— or why many people are still writing about it, and many others are still watching it. And however, author David Brin said before we had to make time travel not happen. So you’re at least still enjoying watching this mystery.

What we love about Netflix is that it’s not likely to run out of great movies to watch on Netflix any soon. There are plenty of science fiction movies to watch on Netflix, and The Adam Project is a heartwarming and exciting movie for the entire family. Ryan Reynolds stars as a man who must travel back in time to save his future son. The film is full of action, humour, and heart. It’s a must-watch for any Netflix subscriber.

Directed by
Barry Jenkins

Beale Street Could Talk is a movie produced by Netflix. It is based on the book by James Baldwin. The film follows a young black couple as they fall in love and explores the discrimination they face in American culture.

The movie is very well-made, and the acting is excellent. The story is sad but also hopeful. It is a great movie to watch on Netflix; whether you’re looking for the best romance movies to watch on Netflix, or drama films, or classic, this movie will blow your mind from the very early moment.

Something is charming in each shot; you don’t know if that comes from the honesty and intimacy emitting the cast’s gestures, language, stares, or props. Love is flowing through the household. You will quickly be fastened to this masterpiece. But there is no wonder when you know that Oscar-wining Moonlight director Barry Jenkins strives to cement his high reputation with this wonderful adaptation of James Baldwin’s novel.

47- Clueless (IMDB: 6.9)

Genre
Comedy, Romance

Stars
Alicia Silverstone, Brittany Murphy, Paul Rudd

Directed by
Amy Heckerling

No 21 best comedy film of all time!

The Guardian

If you’re looking for a light and fun movie to watch on Netflix, then look no further than Clueless! It can be your best movie night ever. This artwork was a critical darling when it was first released in 1995, and it’s easy to see why. For me, it might be because of the teen fashion, slang, and cheerful attitude. In addition, the brilliant writer, Amy Heckerling, used her dazzling speech to create excellence from simple events and a timeless potline.

The film follows the story of Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone), a wealthy teenage girl who spends her days shopping and hanging out with her friends. However, all that changes when she meets a new student named Tai (Brittany Murphy) and decides to help her become popular.

Critics loved Clueless for its sharp writing, witty and mesmerising dialogue, and endearing characters. They also praised Silverstone’s performance, calling her “charming” and “delightful.” Check out Clueless if you’re targeting a comedy that will make you feel fantastic; it’s one of the funniest movies to watch on Netflix.

46- The Beguiled (IMDB: 6.3)

Release
2017

Genre
Drama, Thriller, War

Stars
Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell, Kirsten Dunst

Directed by
Sofia Coppola

Another good one among best movies to watch on Netflix, The Beguiled, is a wonderful production firring with drama and tragedy. But why?

First of all, the cast is terrific. Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and Colin Farrell all give great performances. The story is also exciting and suspenseful. It’s about a group of girls who are being held captive at a school during the Civil War. They must band together to survive and escape when a wounded soldier (Colin Farrell) has to stay in a ladies’ seminary for a while. There is no option rather than putting himself at the mercy of these beautiful ladies.

Is that good or bad? We will see.

Secondly, the cinematography is beautiful. The film was shot in Louisiana, and it really captures the Southern atmosphere perfectly. The scenery is stunning, and the whole movie has a very eerie feeling to it.

Lastly, I think anyone can appreciate the film’s feminist message. It’s empowering to see these women fighting back against their captors and taking control of their own lives.

45- Love in the Villa (IMDB: 5.3)

Release
2022

Genre
Comedy, Romance

Stars
Tom Hopper, Kat Graham, Raymond Ablack

Directed by
Mark Steven Johnson

Before choosing this movie to relax after a tough day, the only advice is to keep your expectations low. This love tale is somewhat unrealistic, yet watching something so fantastic might be a welcome distraction from the monotony of real life. So, don’t let the IMDB’s low rate discourages you from picking this movie if you’re already in the mood for “Let’s go to a movie that’s so fluffy or a musy feel-good romcom that it won’t even make us think!”

A group of friends share a villa in Verona, and the film depicts their interactions. In addition, Netflix has come up with creating a lovely piece where a beautiful lady (Kat Graham) finds herself alone after a harsh breakup.

And why Verona? Because it’s the birthplace and setting of the most romantic story in history, Romeo and Juliet. This romantic Itlian trip is perfectly planned as she meets a stranger who seems not so happy about this surprise.

Watch the movie for a more interesting plot.

44- His House (IMDB: 6.5)

Release
2020

Genre
Darma, Horror, Thriller

Stars
Sope Dirisu, Wunmi Mosaku, Matt Smith

Directed by
Remi Weekes

This movie is for daredevils; it’s one of the best horror movies to watch on Netflix. His House is a great option, so stop trying to track down the perfect film and press watch now on His House’s poster. The story follows a Sudanese refugee couple as they adjust to starting over in England. While they’re struggling to acclimate to their new surroundings, they’re also dealing with horrifying supernatural forces plaguing their home, as if they need more tragedy in their life.

Just imagine evil lurking somewhere, maybe beneath the floor or the wall. In the end, the couple realises that their past ghosts will follow them, and it seems there is no escape.

The house itself is a pretty strong metaphor where you will dive deep into asylum-seekers struggles and fears. Every shot dispatches the inner conflicts, which translate into the decor and cultural elements flowing through the home’s corners.

Overall, His House is a well-done horror movie that does a great job of mixing scares with social commentary. His House is a refreshing twist from the standard American horror film and is well worth your time.

43- Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (IMDB: 6.9)

Release
2020

Genre
Darma, Music

Stars
Viola Davis, Chadwick Boseman, Glynn Turman

Directed by
George C. Wolfe

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is a powerful, ferocious movie from Netflix that tells the story of an African American lady in the early 1900s who struggles against racism and sexism. The acting is superb and firepower and the film leaves you feeling both inspired and hopeful. It’s a great example of the type of film that can be found on Netflix right now.

The movie portrays the tensions when outstanding blues singer Ma Rainey and her band stand in a studio in Chicago in 1927 to record their new songs. Rainey was a trailblazing musician offering an opera of pain and passion.

And there is no better than Viola Davis to perform this violently focused work.

And about Boseman? His reaction, face, and emotion are so open while performing legendary post-card scenes and holding his trumpeter.

The atmosphere might be theatrical and symbolic, but it’s also highly detailed snapshots of place and time.

It’s an idyllic adaption of August Wilson’s story after superstar Denzel Washington directed

wilson’s tenth play, Fences.

It’s a movie that you need to release your sinking feelings and indulge in life’s basis when race, sex, and power confront.

42- Against the Ice (IMDB: 6.5)

Release
2020

Genre
Adventure, Drama, History

Stars
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Joe Cole, Heida Reed

Directed by
Peter Flinth

It’s a tale about two pals who become lost in Antarctica and have to take a daring detour through time to get home.

It’s a Denish expedition to Greenland in the early 20th century where the Americans were laying claim to the island’s northern edge, divided into two parts by a stretch of water. The two explorers take off to find out what’s going on there, and after a while, they fight to be alive in the ice-covered land. But unfortunately, they will likely be left behind while completing this unrivalled adventure.

The movie is exciting, especially when the captain sets up the last part of the expedition, which involves an on-foot mission for several hundred miles. It’s great to see the characters struggle against nature’s power to prove that Greenland belongs to Denmark. The scenery is also beautiful when the explorers bid venture on a glacial adventure, and the fact that they can thrive in such a dangerous setting is fascinating.

I recommend Against the Ice if you need an awesome movie at weekends.

41- Monty Python and the Holy Grail (IMDB: 8.2)

Release
1975

Genre
Comedy, Fantasy. Adventure

Stars
Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Connie Booth

Directed by
Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones

It’s a story about King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table going on a quest to find the Holy Grail. It’s a comedy and one of the most famous Monty Python movies. It’s a surreal and low-budget journey to search for the Holy Grail. During this, they embark on a surprising tour encountering ridiculous obstacles.

The Pythons return to our advanced big screen through Netflix to remind us of their superb and anarchic daring reactions. The platform was keen to celebrate the 40th-anniversary release of Monty Python and the Holy Grail in 2015, and thankfully, it’s still streaming there.

This movie is perhaps not the first that springs to mind when thinking of comedy movies to watch on Netflix, but under the direction of Terry Gilliam in his stellar comedy, it’s just what you need right away. So we highly recommend this movie right away and waiting for your review. And I bet the next time anyone asks you, “What is your favourite comedy?” your answer will be Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

40- The Power of the Dog (IMDB: 6.8)

Release
2021

Genre
Drama, Romance, Western

Stars
Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons

Directed by
Jane Campion

A heart-wrenching yet ultimately hopeful movie to watch on Netflix, The Power of the Dog, should be added to your list. The film, inspired by Don Winslow’s novel, depicts the efforts of two DEA agents to bring down Mexico’s most powerful drug lord and has been nominated for 12 Academy Awards.

Inspired and directed by the super talent New Zealand filmmaker Jane Campion, she’s just what any movie needs to be a blockbuster. The actors create a soothing rhythm casting a Western in a wolf pack of cowboys. It’s a slow-burning splendour where psychodrama and light romance interjects.

The story provides a fascinating glimpse at war on drugs from both the U.S. and Mexican perspectives, despite its bloody and gruesome nature. It’s about two warring brothers in the 1920s on a ranch when Phil Burbank (Benedict Cumberbatch) tries to prove that he is the best and toughest leader. At the same time, he struggles to hide his affection for his late mentor, who taught him a lot— not just how to ride a horse.

And with an all-star cast that includes Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro, and Catherine Keener, you won’t be disappointed.

39- Scarface (IMDB: 8.3)

Release
1983

Genre
Drama, Crime

Stars
Al Pacino, Steven Bauer, Robert Loggia, Michelle Pfeiffer

Directed by
Brian DePalma

A Cuban refugee who arrives in Miami in 1980 with nothing, Tony Montana rises to become a powerful drug lord. The film chronicles his violent rise to power and eventual fall while our new determined immigrant guy takes over a drug cartel and quickly succumbs to greed.

One of De Palma’s gems, Scarface becomes a quotable crime movie in its own right.

The director takes advantage of the explosive elements of the genius actor Al Pacino, who delivers an electrifying portrayal of Tony Montana.

Scarface is widely considered one of the greatest gangster movies to watch on Netflix of all time. It is renowned for its brutal violence, toned down for its theatrical release but restored in subsequent home video releases. The film also features the most interesting thing about cinema. The influential way Tony Montana stays in our memory for good as we couldn’t overlook or even underestimate the dimensions of a natural, tortured person, taking on the screenwriter Oliver Stone whose touch is showing up all the time.

So, rather than spending your time navigating or scrolling through categories, make your way directly to watch this top-notch excellence.

38- Nightbooks (IMDB: 5.7)

Release
2021

Genre
Family, Fantasy, Horror

Stars
Winslow Fegley, Krysten Ritter, Lidya Jewett

Directed by
David Yarovesky

Looking for a family movie? Well, it’s easy with Netflix since you can find a massive library that allocates its content for only kids. Our recommendation lies in Nightbooks, a story about a boy named Alex who gets trapped in a book by a witch named Natacha.

However, don’t expect to find a candy-coloured scene. Actually, it’s a little dark since our hero, Alex is a boy obsessed with scary stores. And then, our beautiful guys will face an evil but lovely young witch who imprisons a contemporary apartment in New York City. And to survive, the kids have to tell the witch an exciting story every night.

I enjoyed watching this show because it was so suspenseful and scary. I also loved the way that the story was told through animation. The characters were likeable, and I found myself rooting for them throughout the show. And if your couch companion will be your child or young sibling, this movie will elevate genuinely scares while following our bright boy.

All unique yet captivating elements gather to create a beautiful fantasy combo which will be rewarding after a long week.

37- I Came By (IMDB: 6.1)

Release
2022

Genre
Thriller

Stars
George MacKay, Kelly MacDonald, Hugh Bonneville

Babak Anvari

Even though there is intense competition in the streaming industry, Netflix remains on the top and is still booming. Know why? Because it truly has something for everyone. And it brilliantly targets the whole globe. So, if you find something too appealing, be sure it would be for someone else.

I Came By is a touching story that will resonate with anyone who has ever felt alone or lost. The plot levels up at the right pace, and the characters are all richly drawn. This picture is a must-watch film for anyone looking for a feel-good movie that will leave you feeling uplifted. It’s about a graffiti artist who is about to unveil a shocking secret. But unfortunately, this mysterious discovery would put him and everyone he knows in danger.

Today, a decent judge (George MacKay) is a believably sinister villain struggling with a horrific big thing in his basement. Still, as this secret will get affected his closest ones to him, he finds himself spinning over an underwhelming tale.

Some might find I Came By is crammed with useless ideas into runtime; others think it’s an inspiring movie that will always hold your breath. However, we see the film features a rare, uniquely performance backed by a thrilling plotline.

36- A Beautiful Mind (IMDB: 8.2)

A 2002 Oscar-winning picture is an excellent film that provides insight into the mind of someone struggling with mental issues.

He is given participate in a lifetime opportunity to work undercover for the government for the sake of combatting Russian agents. However, things rapidly deteriorate from there, as his entire life, career, and sanity all come crashing down around him.

So, what’s the point of having the most innovative mathematical genius in a movie if he isn’t adorable underneath? Nash is that guy who had some sort of superpower but not a normal superpower like Avengers or Marvel stars; it’s so unique.

It’s one of the best movies to watch on Netflix you want to return to immerse yourself in this emotional euphoria.

35- Jackass 4.5 (IMDB: 6.5)

Release
2022

Genre
Drama, Comedy

Stars
Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius

Directed by
Jeff Tremaine

For all Jackass lovers, this movie is a must. An assortment of never-before-seen footage will give you an hour and a half of hilarious time from wild stunts and outrageous comedy.

It’s been 5 years since the last Jackass movie, but the wait for Jackass 4.5 was well worth it. Finally, the film is available on Netflix, and it’s everything you could hope for.

The plot begins from where the previous film left off, with the gang reuniting for one final heist. This time, however, the stars aren’t simply looking for a good time; they’re out to make a statement.

So, why did the Jackas crew come with this movie? Because the band filmed so much footage for the box office hit, Jackass Forever, they decided to release it as a separate set, including behind-seen content and crew interviews that don’t go under the same level of laugh and madness.

However, don’t get it wrong. It’s not a documentary; it’s just a way to embrace the crazy for the sake of a good gaggle.

The stunts in this movie are more outrageous than ever, and the cast is having a blast. This movie will exceed your expectations if you’re a Jackass story fan.

34- The Fundamentals of Caring (IMDB: 7.3)

Release
2016

Genre
Drama, Comedy

Stars
Paul Rudd, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Ehle, Craig Roberts

Directed by
Rob Burnett

Have you ever watched a movie that makes you laugh and cry?

Then you need to watch The Fundamentals of Caring. This film is based on the best-selling novel by Jonathan Evison and follows the story of Ben (Paul Rudd), a caregiver. He forms a unique bond with Trevor (Craig Roberts), a teenager with muscular dystrophy.

Despite its subject matter, The Fundamentals of Caring is a hilarious and uplifting film. It’s also incredibly touching and will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside.

First, you might heat Trevor because of his absurdity, but when we suffer from a mental or physical disease, we become idiots simultaneously. But with some caregiving, we can change our perspective on life, primarily if this caring emits from a buddy comedy star like Rudd, who provides his caretaker with pure sensation.

And it’s not just about disability; loss may turn our lives upside down, like this retired writer who wants badly to cope with his unimaginable grief and find a surrogate son for the one he lost.

Based on the three pillars and fundamentals of caring: Ask, Listen, Observe and Ask again. But it seems that is not enough. You need proper emotional support to overcome our handlers. It’s a must-see if you’re looking for a good Netflix movie.

33- Extraction (IMDB: 6.7)

Release
2020

Genre
Action, Thriller

Stars
Chris Hemsworth, David Harbour, Golshifteh Farahani, Rudhraksh Jaiswal

Directed by
Sam Hargrave

If you’re looking for the best comedies on Netflix, this one is not for you.

Netflix’s movie Extraction is a heart-pounding thriller that will leave you excited and passionate about following what will happen. The film will relieve itself to you in subtle, yet soon after, the performance, narrative, and dynamic shifts are caked at a fast pace, so it’s easy to span your attention. A gruff and daredevil special agent who is enlisted to resume the son of an international crime load.

With Tyler Rake’s (Chris Hemsworth) attempts to complete his mission among a fearless black market mercenary, you expect exquisite shots and a stunning setting with ripples of the most deadly extraction operation.

Rake is a badass character who doesn’t hesitate to kill, and the action sequences in the film are some of the best I’ve ever seen. The plot is simple but effective, and the ending will leave you wanting more.

Overall, I highly recommend Extraction if you’re looking for a thrilling ride. It’s one of the best action movies to watch on Netflix, and if you want to know what happens next in this all-out mission, you’ll have to stay glued to the screen.

32- The Guilty (IMDB: 6.3)

Release
2021

Genre
Crime, Drama, Thriller

Stars
Jake Gyllenhaal, Riley Keough, Ethan Hawke, Peter Sarsgaard

Directed by
Antoine Fuqua

If you’re looking for a nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat glossy remark, then Netflix’s The Guilty is definitely worth watching. The movie follows police officer Joe Bayler who is demoted to working the phones in the emergency dispatch centre. Bayler receives a frantic call from a kidnapped woman and races against time to rescue her. The Guilty is an intense and suspenseful ride that will keep you guessing until the end.

Mastery performance abound — particularly from Gyllenhaal, who is conflicted when he assigns to rescue the woman, and he doesn’t have so much to offer. This single-location thriller will steal your attention quickly as it’s a well-made piece of entertainment.

You will receive the sinking feelings of the operator when he listens carefully to the female victim with a seeking help voice while pretending to talk to her infant daughter. And sometimes, she tries to speak in code to distract her abductor. But at the same time, California is blazing because wildfires intensify the crisis atmosphere.

Bayler has his struggles as well, failed marriage and failing health. Obviously, these circumstances come into play in his work, so he is left answering 911 calls.

31- BigBug (IMDB: 5.5)

As we are keen to update our list of great movies to watch on Netflix, we’ve done our best to make it accessible for everyone to have a look at all movie moods streaming on Netflix. And however, this one doesn’t rank highly on some reviewing websites; you’d miss something brilliant if you decide to trust in other preferences only and give it a chance.

BigBug is a heartwarming story portraying a group of bickering neighbourhoods that find themselves stuck together as household robots lead an android uprising to lock them for their safety.

It’s funny, exciting, and touching all at the same time. Plus, it has an amazing less-knower cast that could push some people to overlook such films because we are most likely to search for big names, but it’s not the case here. So instead, it’s a futuristic picture created by the Oscar-nominated filmmaker Jeunet.

The tension and fun keep higher when suburbanites try to communicate with their well-intentioned electronic assistants to release them or at least let them know what’s going on.

A French popcorn movie with colourful visuals and highly-crafted graphics, BigBug is a pleasant treat for family gatherings.

30- Argo (IMDB: 7.7)

Ben Affleck

We hope this movie wouldn’t be removed and leave Netflix for good because it’s one of the best movies to watch on Netflix and return to rewatch again. I am not exaggerating; listen to what other high-profile critics said about it:

This is a watchable, enjoyable film, with some hilarious and nail-biting moments.

The Guardian

Ben Affleck has delivered a knuckle-muncher of a thriller and a satire on Hollywood.

Times

It grabs you and holds you right through to its nail-biting finale.

Keith Garlington

So, what all fuss?

Ben Affleck helmed and directed the American action/drama film Argo in 2012, where he plays CIA exfiltration specialist Tony Mendez, who uses a bogus Hollywood production to save six American hostages and diplomats from Tehran during the Iran hostage crisis in 1980. The film also features Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, and John Goodman in supporting roles.

The film’s story is based on actual events during the Iran hostage crisis in 1980. The film has been praised for its acting, direction, writing, and accuracy. Critics have called it one of the best films of 2012, and it has been nominated for several Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

So is Argo worth your time? Absolutely!

29- Collateral (IMDB: 7.5)

The streaming website decided to revitalise its library with new additions and alike. And this time, you can watch an iconic 2004 American action thriller film directed by Michael Mann and starring Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx. Collateral is one of the best movies to watch on Netflix.

The movie was well-received by critics, with most praising the performances of all actors under the direction of the gifted director. Many also praised the film’s action sequences and depiction of a nocturnal tour in LA’s streets. As a result, Collateral was nominated for several awards, including two Academy Awards.

So if you’re looking for an exciting movie to watch, definitely check out Collateral!

28- The Harder They Fall (IMDB: 6.5)

Release
2021

Genre
Action, Drama, Western

Stars
Idris Elba, Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, Regina King

Directed by
Jeymes Samuel

This movie gets much buzz once released with a dark and dystopic mood. The story starts with the release of an outlaw who is determined to seek revenge on his enemy.

So, he reunites his gang, who is waiting for him to get out of prison to resume their violent rounds.

Well, it follows the typical premise of western culture, where there is a bad guy (Idris Elba) who killed this kid’s mama and daddy. Then this kid quickly grows up, and he is out there to beat the murderer who ruined his life.

Overall, the movie sounds like a run-of-the-mill western feeling. But trust me, it’s not! We love what the film comes along with some great energy interjecting with a fresh take-on scene. It’s a boldly fictional portrait that you will discover more about bitter cowboys; their language, costumes, and many more.

And you will quickly notice the amalgamation of many stereotypes crafting a new dominion of each character between criminals, historical rugged cowboys, and western culture. It’s a jaw-dropping hit with unexpected subsequent.

27- Dope (IMDB: 7.2)

Release
2015

Genre
Adventure, Comedy, Crime

Stars
Shameik Moore, Zoë Kravitz, Tony Revolori, Kiersey Clemons

Directed by
Rick Famuyiwa

As Netflix invited the phenomenon of binge-watching, we need to highlight the underseen movies. So open the streaming service and click through Dope, and you will be rewarded with one of the best movies to watch on Netflix right now.

This story follows the life of Malcolm, a high school senior and totally nerd trying to get into college. Not to forget, Malcolm comes from a rough neighbourhood in California, Inglewood. But Malcolm is a good boy who wants to break the circle and joins Harvard to make something special for himself.

However, Malcolm’s plans are derailed when he and his friends get caught up in the world of drug dealing.

Although Dope is set in contemporary times, the film has a classic feel as the whole characters look like they are coming out of 1992. However, the series takes place in the modern-day, just like the 90s culture. An interesting storyline and likeable protagonists make this an enjoyable movie. You’ll find yourself rooting for Malcolm as he tries to navigate his way through the dangerous world of drug dealing.

Indeed, Dope is an enjoyable, exciting, and funny film and provides a well-rounded story.

26- Bird Box (IMDB: 6.6)

Release
2018

Genre
Horror, Mystery, Sci-Fi

Stars
Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, Sarah Paulson

Directed by
Susanne Bier

This movie is about a mother and her two children trying to survive in a world where deadly creatures have taken over. The invisible creatures can’t be seen but can kill you if you look at them. In other words, it might drive you, like most of society, to suicide.

So, after five years of this ominous unseen presence, the family must journey through the woods blindfolded in order to make it to safety. It’s a desperate bid to reach the other side of the city, but it’s inevitable. It’s a suspenseful and thrilling ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

This movie will make you think of Lost or the Walking Dead, the River Wild, or a combination from the first moment. Some tense moments are coming in and out while Malorie (Sandra Bullock) tries to keep her kids’ attention to listen to her orders, and other characters are wrestling to save their life.

However, some critics described the movie as an apocalyptic shocker; I highly recommend this movie if you haven’t still watched it, which I doubt. Not just because we all love Bullock, but because that’s something you’ll have to decide for yourself.

It’s not easy to be the writer, director, and actor in the same movie. But you know it’s a superwoman such as Radha Blank, you alter your mind, “Yes, it’s possible!”

And no wonder she won the top directing titles at Sundance.

Radha Blank’s The 40-Year-Old Version is an intimate and moving portrait of an artist amid a creative breakthrough, depicting how white directors select black women artists. And when it comes to someone who has already encountered this situation a lot, the outcome will be a masterpiece. She creates a version of herself of authentic experience that no one can deny, even the white filmmakers themselves.

The film follows Radha, a playwright in her forties who is struggling to find her voice. After hitting a wall with her writing, she turns to rap as an outlet for her creativity. Assisted by her friend and producer D (Oswin Benjamin), Radha is on the verge of breaking out.

The 40-Year-Old Version is a funny, touching, and ultimately inspiring story about following your dreams and pursuing your passions while you already have enough of the midlife crisis. It’s a must-watch for anyone who searches for a bit of motivation in their life.

23- Beasts of No Nation (IMDB: 7.7)

Release
2015

Genre
Drama, War

Stars
Idris Elba, Abraham Attah, Opeyemi Fagbohungbe, Richard Pepple

Directed by
Cary Fukunaga

Netflix’s Beasts Of No Nation is a sorrowful and brutal story that is not for the faint of heart. However, Idris Elba gives an Oscar-worthy performance as the film’s villain. This ruthless warlord terrorises a small West African country without mentioning any name of this country because it’s a repeated story everywhere.

In the film, a little boy’s journey is the focal point. The boy named Agu (Abraham Attah) is forced to flee his home and join the warlord’s rebel army after his parents are killed in an unnamed African revolution. This child turns out to be a soldier fighting in the spectrum of the wrath of civil war.

However, the movie doesn’t show any shortage of drama through the experience of this extraordinary young actor as we see a transformation of a vibrant, loving child into a deed-eyes assassin.

Beasts of No Nation is a compelling and gregarious film that will leave you feeling both horror and hope. It’s a must-watch for anyone interested in movies to watch on Netflix that challenge and inspire.

Not to mention the potent voiceover by Agu to show us what killing looks like to people involved in cold blood every day.

23- Spenser Confidential (IMDB: 6.2)

Release
2020

Genre
Drama, Action, Comedy

Stars
Mark Wahlberg, Alan Arkin, Winston Duke, Colleen Camp

Directed by
Peter Berg

Netflix strikes again with this action movie after cooperation with Hancock and Deepwater Horizon’s filmmaker. It’s an exceptional level of a thriller thrown through. Starring Mark Wahlberg as Spenser, an ex-cop fresh out of prison, the film tells his story when teaming up with his former no-nonsense boxing coach, Hawk (played by Winston Duke). They investigated the murder of two Boston police officers and took down criminals.

It seems there is a conspiracy, and Spenser and his roommate are trying to decode what is happening.

As they try to piece together who is responsible for the killings, they come up against some powerful enemies who will stop at nothing to keep them from getting to the truth. However, some critics said it’s a version of Copland starring Sylvester Stallone and Ray Liotta. If you don’t watch it, you will definitely like Spenser Confidential. Or you can watch both movies and let us know what you think.

Mark Wahlberg is a great action movie, and maybe the only ridiculous thing in this film is Iliza Shlesinger, who is still a startup comedian and isn’t a perfect match for the story.

But you still have fun with non-stop action, plenty of twists and turns, and an incredible pace. Undoubtedly, Spenser Confidential is a gripping tale that will keep you entertained from beginning to end.

22- Space Sweepers (IMDB: 6.5)

Release
2021

Genre
Drama, Action, Adventure

Stars
Song Joong-ki, Kim Tae-ri, Jin Seon-kyu

Directed by
Sung-hee Jo

After Asian pictures had created a boom, Netflix was determined to expand its South Korean production. And it’s time for science fiction adventure.

The movie is set in 2092 and follows the story of a group of people working on a space junk collector ship called The Victory, which is kind of an orbit, but it’s actually a city around the earth. The crew consists of Captain Jang (Kim Tae-ri), Tiger Park (Song Joong-ki), and Bubs (Jin Seon-kyu). They are joined by a new member, Dorothy (Yoo Hae-jin), who is an android with artificial intelligence.

The Victory is not your typical space junk collector ship, and please don’t think it’s an intergalactic space movie. Everything just takes place outside our planet’s atmosphere, and the boat has a special weapon that can destroy space debris.

The crew uses this weapon to collect rewards the UGC offers (United Galactic Confederation). But when they find something strange in the debris, they soon discover that they are not the only ones after it.

Okay, let’s face it, Netflix is not good at all genres of movies, science fiction included. But Space Sweepers is one of the best original Netflix movies I’ve ever seen.

21- The Lost Daughter (IMDB: 6.7)

Release
2021

Genre
Drama

Stars
Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley, Dakota Johnson, Ed Harris

Directed by
Maggie Gyllenhaal

The Lost Daughter by Elena Ferrante is the story of a mother and daughter struggling to connect with each other. The novel follows the lives of these two characters as they grapple with their relationship and attempt to reconnect with one another.

It begins with a woman’s beach vacation while everything is about to change, taking a dark turn where she starts to confront the troubles of her past. However, everyone could see this movie from his perspective and read their experiences while watching this masterpiece drama. You might interpret this differently from your companion, who shares the same couch with you, and that’s when the cinematic charm lies.

The Lost Daughter is a moving, tragic, and gloomy story about the complex bond between mothers and daughters. The great writer, Ferrante, captures this relationship’s emotional roller coaster, and she does so with insight and compassion. Olivia Colman’s performance is of genuine star quality. Acting like an unnatural mother with conflicting feelings, her emotions and charisma dazzle a sense and mind.

Despite Gyllenhaal’s stylish and exciting directorial debut, the result is a novel that is both heartbreaking and hopeful.

20- Eyes Wide Shut (IMDB: 7.5)

Release
1999

Genre
Drama, Mystery, Thriller

Eyes Wide Shut is one of our most popular and well-known films; thankfully, you can find it on Netflix. The story follows Dr Bill Harford, who is a successful Manhattan doctor. However, after his wife Alice tells him about her sexual fantasies, Bill becomes obsessed with having an affair.

He eventually meets a prostitute named Domino and spends the night with her. The next day, he realises that he may have been drugged and that his experience was just a dream. Eyes Wide Shut is a film that explores the dark side of human sexuality and the dangers of infidelity, explaining more about cruelty and how all painful, comfortable and uncomfortable feelings relate to our marriage relationship.s

Actually, the director of Eyes Wide Shut, Stanley Kubrick, died before witnessing the blockbuster of his production, appraised by many critics worldwide. Nevertheless, it’s a remarkable, erotic and unique masterwork with a great perspective we’ve never seen before.

The first Men in Black is still streaming on Netflix, which is excellent, and you have to take advantage of it or maybe rewatch it on your next vacation because it’s a punch of hilarity, and you deserve it.

There are no question Men in Black is one of those movies to watch on Netflix that you can watch over and over again. It’s a classic, hit, and super for all times. But here is the story in case you haven’t seen it before (Are you serious!). It is about two men, Agent J (Will Smith) and Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones), who work for a secret organisation called the Men in Black. They protect the earth from aliens and keep the peace between humans and aliens. The movie is funny, action-packed, and has a great cast. Men in Black is an excellent pick if you’re looking for a good movie to watch on Netflix.

Release
2022

Genre
Action, Fantasy, Comedy

Stars
Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Meagan Good

Directed by
J.J. Perry

When Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco team up to make a movie, you should expect nothing but doses of laughing and slyly jobbing performance.

It’s a vampire comedy movie when a hard-working and blue-collar man who is struggling to provide his pretty quick-witted daughter with a good life. However, his mundane pool cleaning job in San Fernando Valley is just a front for his actual work and source of income. He is hunting and killing vampires as part of the international union for vampire hunters.

So, Bud (Jamie Foxx), our down-at-heel hero, wants to generate a tremendous amount of cash for his 10-year-old kid and his estranged wife in a short time. So, he has to fire more wooden bullets to trace vampires to fall down more villains for the sake of money.

Well, it’s a light movie with some funny and exciting subsequence. But, you know, it’s a vampire comedy at the end, so lower your expectations to enjoy it.

16- Flight (IMDB: 7.3)

Release
2012

Genre
Drama, Thriller

Stars
Denzel Washington, Nadine Velazquez, Bruce Greenwood, Brian Geraghty, John Goodman

Directed by
Robert Zemeckis

With the sheer volume of movies to watch on Netflix, I always feel attached to this kind of movie, which will go deep inside our human vulnerability. This 2012 box office hit is one of my favourites of all time. And why not? No one couldn’t like the megastar Denzel Washington. His natural gravitas turns any ordinary story into something more potent and genuine.

It’s about an alcoholic pilot who manages to fly anyway, even though he sometimes drinks during the flight, which comes against all rules. But recently, his drinking problems become unacceptable after he miraculously lands a crashing plane; the story follows his subsequent investigation by an airline safety inspector.

Soon enough, it becomes clear that not everything is as it seems, and Washington’s character is forced to confront his demons. Flight is a thrilling film from start to finish, with stunning graphics and a riveting story.

15- Under the Shadow (IMDB: 6.8)

Release
2016

Genre
Drama, Fantasy, Horror

Stars
Narges Rashidi, Avin Manshadi, Bobby Naderi

Directed by
Babak Anvari

It’s one of the real-traffic movies to watch on Netflix mostly overlooked by the audience. But we’re excited about writing this review as one of the Iranian gems.

The story follows a mother and daughter living in Tehran during the Iran-Iraq war, specifically in December 1988. The mother is trying to shield her child from the war’s perils, but she is also struggling with her own problems, including emotions of loneliness, oppression, and grief. In addition, she now works on how she could resume her medical studies as the new regime imposes strict regulations to prevent women from going out for any reason, especially for education.

The movie is shot in a very realistic style and effectively conveys the fear and paranoia people must have felt during the war. All actors do a fantastic job, and the film contains some tense sequences.

Without a doubt, Under the Shadow is an excellent movie that offers a fresh perspective on the Iran-Iraq conflict. In case you’re becoming bored with the same old Netflix fare, Under the Shadow is for you!

14- Senior Year (IMDB: 5.5)

Release
2022

Genre
Comedy

Stars
Rebel Wilson, Angourie Rice, Mary Holland, Molly Brown

Directed by
Alex Hardcastle

Well, let’s be honest here, the low rate of the Senior Year movie is an indicator of something. It warns you that you’ll not watch an awesome one— maybe it’s mediocre or maybe less. However, our watching recommendations should fit enough for all moods and nights. So, we’ll enlighten you with a bit of background on the story so you can choose the right one for your current temper.

Okay, we see that Rebel Wilson took advantage of the lockdown during the pandemic and did the exact opposite for everyone, at least for me ( I gained extra weight that I am still fighting to lose it). And I think it’s one of the hidden messages of the movie; look, she exercised and got into shape, she becomes incredible with a new look and energy, and so you can do that, too!

And here is the deal: The senior year of high school is difficult for a group of friends after one falls into a pyramid and subsequently into a coma. And she awakens 20 years later in the body of 37 and the mind of 18, or maybe less, we don’t know.

If you find this exciting for you, so, good for you, and go ahead. But, if not, don’t go anywhere; just keep scrolling, and I am sure next better.

13- OKJA (IMDB: 7.3)

Release
2017

Genre
Action, Sci-fi, Drama, Adventure

Stars
Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Seo-hyun Ahn

Directed by
Bong Joon-ho

It’s one of the “important” movies on Netflix, receiving raves from the audience and critics’ consensus for a good reason. Firstly, it’s one of the prestigious movies to watch on Netflix which didn’t spare money or effort to deliver an excellent film compared to other blockbusters such as ET or Roald Dahl. Second, it’s viewed as a movie theatre.

Third, it’s another hit by Snowpiercer director Bong Joon-ho who makes us believe and trust more and more the power of South Korean production.

The story follows Mija, a young girl who is tasked with saving her best friend named, Okja, a giant animal, from being slaughtered. It risks everything to prevent kidnapping her beloved wired but fascinating beast. You will enjoy this unrivalled relationship of how to fight a powerful and multinational company from taking your closest one away. The film is full of excitement, adventure, and emotion and will leave you feeling satisfied at the end.

11- Photocopier (IMDB: 6.7)

Release
2021

Genre
Crime, Drama, Mystery

Stars
Shenina Cinnamon, Dea Panendra, Giulio Parengkuan

Directed by
Wregas Bhanuteja

It always starts with friends, the bad ones. But our hero, Sur, also doesn’t have idyllic behaviour. Anyway, Sur already has its own business, a website for a theatre group called meta.

So, the story is about a group of friends who find a photocopier that makes copies of people. They use it to make copies of themselves so they can go to different places and do other things. That happened after a night of drinking while celebrating winning awards with her group. Sur awakens to see inappropriate photos of her at a party go viral online, and she loses her scholarship due to bringing disgrace to her faculty.

The movie is exotic and exciting, an Indonesian dramatic thriller surfacing one of the most challenging times everyone could face: college.

However, all actors are unknown teenagers and critically acclaimed for their masterly performances and menacing talents.

Paring with tension and a horror hint, it’s definitely worth watching.

10- 6 Underground (IMDB: 6.7)

Release
2021

Genre
Action, Thriller

Stars
Ryan Reynolds, Mélanie Laurent, Dave Franco

Directed by
Michael Bay

This movie is an impressive win for all actors involved. It’s a prime slot if you’re ready to immerse in a typical snazzy action premise. It’s a combination of a star name and gorgeous shots, which have made 6 Underground a hit once released, reflecting the viewers’ scale.

6 Underground is the story of what happens when a group decides they no longer want to be ruled by anyone. The movie depicts a group of six billionaires who fake their deaths and then use their vast resources to take down corrupt regimes all over the world. It’s flashy escapism which always captivates the audience. Also, this movie remains a huge turning point for Deadpool’s star.

It’s easy to tell that the movie’s creators had a great time shooting all the action scenes. However, it needs a definite amount of couching because you will be thrilled till the end.

9- The Hand of God (IMDB: 7:3)

Release
2021

Genre
Drama

Stars
Filippo Scotti, Toni Servillo, Teresa Saponangelo

Directed by
Paolo Sorrentino

Indeed, I am not familiar with Italian movies, but when I knew Golden Globe- award-winning Paolo Sorrentino created this movie, my plan changed. This movie has already garnered festival awards and was nominated for the Golden Globe in the best motion picture in the category of non-English shows.

It’s one of the Italian dramas that should be added to your list right away. Once you click through it, you can see why. The storytelling is engaging, and the way the plotline is flooding is absolutely captivating.

About the story? Well, we should go back to the 1980s in Naples when a handsome lad, Fabietto, wants to pursue his love for football. But a family tragedy strikes, paving his way to an entirely another thing. So he starts tracing more about his uncertain but promising future as a filmmaker.

It’s kind of a biography of a Neapolitan director who is Sorrentino in a vivid and picturesque way.

8- I’m Thinking of Ending Things (IMDB: 6.6)

Release
2020

Genre
Drama, Thriller

Stars
Jessie Buckley, Jesse Plemons, Toni Collette

Directed by
Charlie Kaufman

Wow, what a doozy!

It’s a bit of a mind-bender, so be prepared to pay close attention! It’s an adaption of a novel carrying the same name by Iain Reid.

However, a large group of people could not enjoy it because it has a particular experience squashing the stereotypes of thrillers formulating a maestro based on only vivid pictures. Instead, it’s flooded with many things to think about or nothing.

The story is about a woman named Jake considering ending her relationship with her boyfriend.

She takes a road trip with him to his hometown, and along the way, she starts to question everything she knows about him. Why is he so secretive? What is he hiding from her? As she learns more, her fears only grow. I won’t disclose much more about the storyline, but trust me when I say the film is exciting and well-made. It’s suspenseful and full of misgivings up until the very end.

7- The Town (IMDB: 7.5)

Release
2010

Genre
Drama, Thriller, Crime

Stars
Ben Affleck, Chris Cooper, Blake Lively, Titus Welliver, Rebecca Hall

Directed by
Ben Affleck

When I watched this movie for the first time, I screamed, “Well, finally, Ben Affleck is back.”

The Town sets in a city brimming with criminals or this kind of place you will never want to visit.

The movie depicts the events after a botched bank heist in Boston. Affleck expertly weaves together the tense action with the emotional fallout, creating a film that is both exciting and thought-provoking.

As the story goes, a witness of the last robbery by Affleck’s gang is pretty Rebecca Hall, and our hero wants to know if she knows anything about them, so he gets close to her. However, it is not the main point of the movie. Actually, it’s the ultimate Affleck character’s life. Hall is one of his victims, and he takes advantage of her, nothing more.

Anyway, the movie has a broad appeal, and I am pretty sure you will love it.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is a feast of wonders (not superpower wonders, but some deviant humanity’ instincts) from the Coen brothers that tells six different anecdotes set in the American West. The film is both funny and tragic, with each story having its unique tone.

The protagonist of the title tale is a gun-toting singer Buster Scruggs (Tim Blake Nelson). He has a true talent, but his luck eventually runs out.

Another story follows a prospector (James Franco) who strikes it rich but then has to deal with the envy of those around him. In another story, Liam Neeson and Zoe Kazan are among a band of criminals who turn on each other while holed up in a remote cabin.

It’s one of these movies to watch on Netflix and rate with a super like.

Release
2021

Genre
Drama, Crime

Stars
Sandra Bullock, Jon Bernthal, Vincent D’Onofrio, Rob Morgan, Viola Davis

Directed by
Nora Fingscheidt

Netflix’s The Unforgivable is a gripping and emotional movie that will leave alone weeping in the corner of the room (Kidding! But it’s a very emotionally charged drama). Sandra Bullock again comes with a darker and grittier role than you might think. But that’s why we love this great star. She can convey all feelings brilliantly and idly.

The story is about a recently gloomy woman released from prison after serving a sentence for a serious crime. She tries to reenter a society that never forgives her violent guilt. Her past still chases her, and you will have a feast of conflicting emotions but don’t judge her— just watch and learn.

Release
2021

Genre
Drama, Comedy, Sci-Fi

Stars
Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Rob Morgan

Adam McKay

It’s one of Netflix’s hits that marketed it for as long as one of the hefty production budgets that people were dying to watch. And it topped the top movie list on the platform for a while.

You absolutely stumble up thousands of memes inspired by the movie.

The story is about two astronomers discovering a giant asteroid on a collision course with Earth. They have just six weeks to warn the world before it’s too late. The movie stars Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio as the astronomers and is directed by Adam McKay.

Many things created this movie’s success, but when it comes to stars, they gave it propulsion, that is, the power of a picture titled with big names and Oscar-winning actors such as DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, and Lawrence.

Don’t Look Up was a head-smashingly viral challenge, and I bet you’ve already seen it, but you know a list of movies to watch on Netflix never makes sense without such a movie.

With plenty of red herrings and twists and turns, Murder Mystery is a light comedy with a captivating story. And even if you’ve figured out what would happen next, there are still a few surprises in store.
