Love Stories on the Irish Hills

Ireland is a gorgeous country with its rolling green hills, beautiful beaches, rich culture, and welcoming people. It’s the perfect backdrop to a whirlwind love story for the ages. Throughout the years, filmmakers have made good use of this ideal location. They have set love stories throughout the country; whether the lovers were Irish or just happened to fall in love while in Ireland, Ireland and its culture always played a significant role in the culmination of their passion.

Four Letters of Love will be another addition to the long list of Irish romance movies that make us want to believe in genuine love all over again. But before we talk about the new film, let us tell you about a couple of movies you can watch while waiting for the release of Four Letters of Love.

Leap Year

Ever heard of the legend of Leap Year? An Irish tradition states that on a specific date during a Leap Year, the woman can propose to her man instead of waiting for him to do it. Anna, an American woman, gets tired of waiting for her boyfriend to propose. So, while he is on a business trip to Ireland, she decides to follow him and propose to him on Leap Year.

Things will obviously not go as planned! However, this charming romance starring Amy Adams and Matthew Goode will make you want to pack your bags and head straight to Ireland to find your own true love as soon as possible!

P.S. I Love You

P.S. I Love You and Four Letters of Love have two things in common. 1: They are both adapted from Irish novels and 2: The story has something to do with letters. In P.S. I Love You, Holly, a recent widow, starts receiving letters from her dead husband that are meant to help her deal with her grief.

One of the tasks is taking a trip back to Ireland, where they first met. So Holly packs her bags, takes her girlfriends along and travels to Ireland. The film is a beautiful story of love and how moving on doesn’t mean that you do not love that person any more. With heartthrob Gerard Butler and Hillary Swank leading this film, we can guarantee you will fall in love!

Brooklyn

Okay, so technically, Brooklyn takes place between Brooklyn, USA and a town in Southeast Ireland, But the story is 100% Irish at heart. It’s based on the Irish novel of the same name by Colm Tóibín.

Brooklyn, starring Irish Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan, tells the story of Eilis, a young girl who decides to leave Ireland for the US. Deeming her life in Ireland as going nowhere, Eilis tries to find her purpose in America. Brooklyn is the story of Irish immigrants and how Eilis learns to love and cherish her roots no matter how far she goes. It’s not only a love story between two people, but a love story between a girl and her country.

Now that you have some movies to give you a background on Irish love stories, let’s dive into the new addition we’re getting next year!

The Plot of Four Letters of Love

Four Letters of Love is a profoundly romantic Irish story. It tells the story of three parents of a young couple fated to be together. Nicholas Coughlin (Fionn O’Shea) grew up in a loving family. That is until his father, William (Pierce Brosnan), said that God had spoken to him. He quit his job and decided to follow God’s “message’’ to him to spend his life painting, leaving his family to fend for themselves.

Conversely, Isabel lives a simple life with her poet father and wise mother. One day, while her brother takes her to dance class, he suffers from a paralysing fit. Feeling guilty and burdened, Isabel leaves her family to attend a school on the mainland.

As the young couple meet and fall in love, they also have to deal with the difficulties life has thrown their way. Coming to terms with their families and their pasts will be the only way for them to build a healthy future together.
