For many, summer and holidays are all about travelling, adventures, getting together with family and friends, or simply going somewhere to relax. However, things might not always go the way we want them to. You could get killed, you know, kidnapped, or sliced up like a pizza; they get really creative with this stuff! Hey, we don’t mean to scare you off, but yes, you should probably be scared by now.

Best Travel Horror Movies

As to not keep you waiting, let’s dive into some of the most horror movies about travel and vacations. You should look at the list below if you are about to travel. Just make sure you pay attention to the details in these movies; they may save your life!

1. Hostel (2005)

When two college students decide to go backpacking across Europe, they face a fate they have never imagined! Josh and Paxton were enjoying their trip, drinking, partying, and doing what two American guys their age normally do. However, they meet an Alaskan guy called Oli in Amsterdam, and the three of them become friends. For their next destination, they plan to visit Barcelona until they meet Alexi, who tells them about another place that makes them change their entire plan.

They learn that there is a place in Slovakia where they could have the best time of their lives with the women there. Without hesitation, the three friends take the next train to Slovakia and are excited to start their wild adventure. However, the place turns out to be a haven for sick, rich individuals who pay lots of money to torture and kill tourists.

2. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

This horror movie kept generations sleep-deprived after watching it. It follows the story of a group of friends heading to Texas. On their way, they come across a deserted house and go to explore it. However, to their unpleasant surprise, the place is creepier than they thought, with a disturbed individual waving with a chainsaw, ready to cut and kill whoever comes near him.

3. Midsommar (2019)

Midsommar is a disturbing horror film that takes place in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. When you visualise a peaceful, calm village in Sweden where sunlight never disappears, the last thing that would come to your mind is the horrific scenes you will see in the movie.

Dani and Christian’s unsettling relationship may have another chance, or at least that is what they think when they decide to go on a trip to a Swedish village with their friends. The trip is around the time of the midsummer festival, where the villagers turn out to be more dangerous than they appear to be.

4. Jeepers Creepers (2001)

On a road trip to the countryside of Florida, a brother and sister find themselves fighting for their lives against a monster that no one has seen anything like it before. The terrifying creature chooses its prey based on how well their organs and body parts will benefit him when he eats them. As creepy as it sounds, Jeepers Creepers is definitely one of the best horror movies to watch, especially if you are planning to go on a road trip to the countryside anytime soon!

5. The Hills Have Eyes (2006)

When a family decides to go on a road trip that is supposed to be fun and happy, they face their worst nightmares in the desert. A group of people who are genetically affected by bombs and radiation from military activities attack people, torture them, and kill them in the most painful ways possible.

6. Berlin Syndrome (2017)

This psychological thriller follows Clare (Teresa Palmer) as she travels alone to Berlin, taking pictures as part of her job as a photographer. One day, she meets a teacher and goes to spend the night at his apartment, thinking it might be the beginning of a good romance. However, when she wakes up the next morning, she finds out that she became captive in his apartment and she may never be able to get out.

7. Final Destination (2000)

How would you feel if you survived a fatal accident only to find out that death is following you to take you down? This is what happened to Alex and his friend while heading to Paris on a plane. Alex had a vision of the plane exploding; he panicked and asked all his classmates to get off the plane. However, only five students and their teacher listened to him, and once they got off, the plane exploded.

Just when they thought they had survived, death started collecting them one by one in creepy accidents by the exact order they were supposed to die in on the plane. Once again, Alex starts thinking and looking for answers to save his and his friend’s lives.

8. Us (2019)

The Wilson family goes on a road trip, which is all going well. Suddenly, they get attacked by a weird-looking family, and it isn’t long before they discover that those who attacked them look exactly like them, except that they live underground in endless tunnels with absolutely nothing to give their lives meaning! This psychological thriller is deep and full of hidden messages, symbolising the conflict between the rich and the poor, those who have it all and those who have nothing.

9. The Grudge (2004)

Sara Michelle Gellar plays the role of a nurse who works and lives in Tokyo. While in this foreign country, she encounters a curse that happens to those who die in rage or sadness. The spirit of an angry ghost follows her to take her life and then move to another victim. The movie is the American version of a Japanese film, and both are extremely terrifying.

10. You’re Next (2011)

When the Davidson family decide to celebrate their 35th anniversary, they have a family reunion in their luxury getaway house. The children, their spouses, and their children all came together under the same roof to celebrate. However, their celebration was interrupted when a group wearing masks started hunting them!

11. Wrong Turn (2003)

Six friends decide to go on a trip to the West Virginia woods and are met with the most horrifying fate. They become prey for disfigured cannibals living in the mountains and are forced to find ways to survive their brutal torturing. This horror movie is very disturbing and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

12. The Green Inferno (2013)

Once again, Eli Roth gives us another travel horror movie after Hostel. This time, we follow a group of students who are activists and decide to go on a trip to the Amazone to save the rainy forest. However, when they reach there, they discover that they are not alone and that they become targets to cannibals who are ready to torture and kill them.

13. The Descent (2005)

This British horror movie follows six women on their trip to explore caves. Their vacation went wrong when they discovered they were not the only ones in that cave. They found that we are not the only humanoid species on Earth!

When these women enter the cave, they get attacked by terrifying creatures who want nothing but to kill them and protect their caves. The whole experience is chilling and keeps you on the edge of your seat, especially if you put yourself in these women’s shoes! 14. No Escape (2015)

No Escape is one of the horror movies that keep you speechless and unable to take your breath the whole time you are watching! This intense thriller follows Jack Dwyer (Owen Wilson) and his family as they move to an Asian country for Jack’s work and find themselves in the middle of a political conflict that results in the killing of every foreigner in the country. The movie follows Jack’s attempts to escape with his family without being detected as foreigners or killed.

15. Wolf Creek (2005)

Wolf Creek is a horror movie based on actual events. It follows backpackers on their trip to Australia as they get stranded and don’t know how to get back. Suddenly, they see a car approaching, and it turns out to be a local man offering to help them. Unfortunately, the man is a maniac who hates tourists and gets pleasure from torturing and killing them.

16. The Cabin in the Woods (2011)

This horror movie follows five friends on their trip to an isolated cabin in the woods. However, their vacation becomes a nightmare when they discover a sinister secret hiding in this cabin. Here, we follow these friends’ attempts to survive their worst nightmare and find the reason behind it.

17. No Escape (Follow Me) (2020)

This thriller/horror follows a social media influencer and his friend on their trip to Moscow. The influencer is used to travelling the world and documenting each second of his trips to post them for his followers. However, this time will be like no other, as their trip to Moscow gets them into the world of a creepy and sinister organisation that makes a living from killing and torturing people.
